PURE GRATITUDE!

"As I think of the word "GRATiTUDE", I recall that all things in life are expressed in the simplest words : "Purpose and meaning; Friends and family; Caring and community; Love and work; Appreciation and Gratitude. "
-James R. Bradley

"Gratitude is the rosemary of the heart."
-Minna Antrim

"The Power Of Gratitude
When Grateful thoughts begin to fill your mind,
It's quite amazing that you always find
So little space for worry, doubt and stress,
But much more room, it seems, for happiness!"
-William Arthur Ward

I have so much GRATiTUDE for these two munchkins in my life!
This was a little THANKSGiViNG breakfast yesterday at FUDDRUCKERS.

Here I am proudly snuggled in with my two favorite kids,
Beau and Mariah

Mariah was busy creating bracelets and other fun stuff
out of her playdough
yesterday morning at Fuddrucker's for breakfast!

A little pre-thanksgiving STARBUCKS with my cousin GWEN!
I met her there on Sunday afternoon and
my neighbour, Heather, happened to be there, too and snapped a pic of us!
I have so much GRATiTUDE for my friends and relatives...
and for STARBUCKS, too!!!

Here was the first of my THANKSGIVING
suppers at my sister-in-law Brenda's house.
This is my Mother and Father  in-law,
with my nephew, Maxwell and niece, Rowen
*note the artwork in the background,
a painting by Rowen *

PURE SWEETNESS!
This was a little trip we made to the frozen yogurt bar called "PURE"
yesterday afternoon... here is Mariah ready to add the extras to my yogurt for me!

Mariah featuring our crafted Halloween Wreath
we made together yesterday afternoon!
I am so GRATEFUL she loves to craft with her Grammie D!

We also made a Halloween garland, too!

Mariah was all smiles yesterday
as we headed to the basement for crafting!

Our friends... BOB and JACQUIE
hosted another lovely THANKSGIVING DINNER last night.

Brian helped with the TURKEY CARVING.

Other guests and co-hosts were Jacquie's American friends
Diane and Jim visiting from the states.

Bob doing a THANKSGIVING TOAST!

I was so GRATEFUL that BRIAN
was back after being in Vancouver for a week.
He missed the first Thanksgiving dinner on sunday, but
was able to be at this one.

Having fun with the clean up... with the red pot holder gloves
and a little Pumpkin lid to a container!

I have nothing but PURE GRATITUDE for the past few days.
Not only did I celebrate THANKSGIVING many times over, but I felt so blessed to be amongst some of my most special people in my life to celebrate with!

Sunday was the start of the celebrations as I met my cousin Gwen for a special little Starbucks gathering for lattes.
I always enjoy when Gwen and I get together for a little catch up on the latest!
... and what better place than
Starbucks to do it?!

Sunday evening I was invited to my
sister-in-law, Brenda and brother-in-law, Mark's place for a delicious Turkey supper.
It was their son, Maxwell's 17th birthday, too,
so it was a double celebration...
therefore the double dessert feature, too!
We had the pumpkin pie and the birthday cake both following the meal.
My parents in-law, Blanche and Greg
were there also, so it was a nice evening and meal out for me.

I was excited to welcome home my hubby, Brian after being in Vancouver later Sunday night. He had been away to visit his brother Bruce this past week.

Yesterday morning the THANKSGIVING celebrations continued as Brian and I met
Jana, Nels and the kids for breakfast at FUDDRUCKER'S. Mariah was busy creating things out of her playdough while
Beau was just his busy little self!

In the afternoon we picked up Mariah while Beau had a nap and took her to the frozen Yogurt place called "PURE". Surprisingly even though there are many, many toppings one can add to the many varieties of yogurt, Mariah likes her vanilla yogurt just plain. She did however help me add toppings to mine, though!

Mariah came back here yesterday for a little afternoon of crafting and fun with us. She enjoys the time she can have her grandparents all to herself. She was such a sweet little girl
and is growing up so fast these days!

Brian and I got an invite to our good friends, Bob and Jacquie's for another Thanksgiving supper last night. It was delicious too... with turkey and all the trimmings along with the traditional pumpkin pie and
whip cream for dessert.

Jacquie had previously broke her foot this week, but insisted on following through with the meal inspite of her mishap. She does an amazing job, too. She had some help from their visiting friends Diane and Jim, as well.

This morning I had PURE GRATITUDE
for the TWO class TWOS-DAY at the gym!
After all my THANKSGIVING
consumption over the weekend...
I needed two classes
to help to burn some of it off!

I truly felt blessed over the weekend, and hope my feelings of Gratitude continue,
because it is an emotion that is to be shared and expressed year round.

More family celebrations coming up...

Today my cousin John and his wife Mary Pat are celebrating their 31st wedding anniversary.

Tomorrow my dad's youngest sister, Betty,
is celebrating a milestone ...
HAPPY 80th BIRTHDAY
to my DEAR AUNTIE BETTY in Chicago.
I hope the celebrations are spectacular!

And on that note...
here is a poem to sum up my theme of the day!

I am feeling so grateful in my attitude,
That is what brings out my
PURE GRATITDE!
And believe me,
I'm feeling way beyond blessed
My THANKSGIVING weekend
was truly the best.
There was just so much to make me
feel THANKFUL for,
And SO MUCH TO EAT...
with the ones I ADORE!
I hope to carry that great feeling through,
To all the coming days,
and the months, too!

HaPpY GiViNg ThAnKs!

"Be thankful for what you have; you'll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don't have, you'll never have enough."
-Oprah Winfrey

"If the only prayer you said in your life was 'Thank You', that would suffice."
-Meister Eckhart

"As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter the words, but to live them."
- John F. Kennedy

My Happy little PUMPKIN, BEAU...
yesterday enjoying the Halloween stuff!
I am just so THANKFUL
for every minute I get to spend with him.

Beau was having fun putting the pails
on his head!!!
He is such a little character!

Here is the boy of many hats...
wearing the Pumpkin ball cap sideways
and holding a little pumpkin.

Silly boy trying to put the little pumpkin on his head
... but it was too little!

JANA and the kids yesterday on her way to work
as she dropped off Beau for me to babysit for the day.
I'm always THANKFUL for any time I see them.
Mariah is making a funny face here!

I'm always THANKFUL for the times my brother, Brian,
drops by for a visit, too.
Beau was THANKFUL for oreo-cakester cookies yesterday!
*note... the "LOVE" sign in the back,
this picture is one of LOVE for sure.

Brian snapped one of me with BEAU, too!
How cute is his hat?????
(His sweater and jeans are pretty darn cute, too!)

NELS picked up Beau yesterday and
Mariah then did a round with the PUMPKIN HATS!
I'm so THANKFUL for family like this in my life.

Mariah and Beau just before they headed home yesterday.
Mariah is such a proud big sister...
and Beau was looking for her in the afternoon, too!
He wandered around the house calling "RIAH" in his husky little voice.

I picked up Mariah from her kindergarden after school program
and Beau from his daycare on Thursday.
I brought them back here,
and their UNCLE JENS came and picked them up from here.
He is also very good with the munchkins!

Mariah proudly showing me her Kindergarden door at her school
when I picked her up on Thursday.

I was invited to join a group of classy ladies
for a Fashion Show and Lunch on Thursday as well.
I am ever so THANKFUL for the many circles of friends in my life!

THANKFULNESS
is a pretty vast theme for my blog,
and believe me, I feel I have so much to be THANKFUL for.

With this being THANKSGIVING weekend here in Canada, I figured I would share some of my reasons for GIVING THANKS!

I would have to give THANKS
 to my parents,
who gave me my life in the first place.
It was them who taught me
to be loving and grateful always,
and although they are both no longer living... their spirit lives on in my heart and my daily life, and for that I am ever grateful.

I am THANKFUL for family... my husband, my kids, my grandkids. I am also lucky to have my two brothers, and all extended family in and around... from aunts, uncles, cousins,
and in-laws... nieces and nephews!

I am ever so GRATEFUL for so many varying CIRCLES of FRIENDS!
(I am also grateful for CIRCLES, too, because when gathered together they create
POLKA DOTS!)

I am lucky to have my doggie, Shuffle,
she gives me unconditional LOVE...
and I'm GRATEFUL for LOVE!

Lately I have been THANKFUL for good food, and good health, along with a good gym,
which gives me a GOOD LIFE!

I have enjoyed the blog as it has been a form of therapy for me to stay focused on what is positive and good in my life.
I'm THANKFUL to be able to have a place to jot down my thoughts and poems and share my latest pics!

I'm THANKFUL for my blog readers, too,
some I know comment often and others are silent readers... but either way... to all of you...
I SAY THANK YOU!

I'm grateful for music and dance and
TV where I can watch lots of both!

I'm grateful for a comfortable home and the beautiful city I live in and the seasons which I get to experience throughout each year.

Really my list could go on and on... but  for now I'll also add that celebrations of all kinds make us cherish the good and the bad times...
and they help release our emotions.
I am THANKFUL for those as well.

I mentioned in my last blog that October is a month of many celebrations within our family.

Yesterday my dad's oldest sister, RUTH, celebrated her 91st birthday. I think of
BLUE BIRDS when I think of my Auntie Ruth, and I wish her many of those !

Today, my grandson, BEAU is 14 months old!
He is advancing so much in his little life
with his cute little ways and charming little
"BEAU-emian" language of his.
He now babbles non stop with these recognizable words...
MAMA, DADA, POPPA, RIAH,
AH OH & NUM NUM!
I love it when kids are learning to talk!

Also celebrating a birthday today is my cousin BEV...TAP into a HAPPY ONE today, CUZ!

I am remembering this date 25 years ago when I lost my DEAR UNCLE RUDY. I have many fond and cherished memories of him.
I am always GRATEFUL for MEMORIES... they are what keep us going from day to day!

Tomorrow my nephew, MAXWELL will be 17 already... and I still remember when he was born... seems like only yesterday.

I have received 2 THANKSGIVING SUPPER invites, too... one tomorrow with Sister-in-law Brenda, and her family, and one on Monday, with good friends Bob and Jacquie.
I am LUCKY and THANKFUL for those and look forward to both outings and meals.

So as I celebrate THANKSGIVING...
I'll always remember to be GRATEFUL for things that I am most blessed with in my life.

I wrote a new poem yesterday but when searching through an old binder of some of my poetry, I found one I liked better. I still remember reading this one to my mom when I wrote it. MOM was always my biggest fan of my poetry, and for that I am ever grateful also!

HAPPY GIVING THANKS

Let's make some time,
and take some time
to all APPRECIATE.
For the very many, many things
that make our lives so GREAT.
We often take so many things
for granted everyday,
And often never take the time
to give THANKS, or to say,
That we're LUCKY just to be ALIVE
and have a HOME to live in,
And we're lucky for the HOPES and DREAMS
that help to keep us DRIVEN.
Sometimes it's just the LITTLE THINGS
like a SMILE upon one's face,
Or a great big park to run in,
with a nice wide open space.
A raindrop, on the petal,
of a flower in your yard,
When we stop to think a lot,
it's really not that hard!
There really are so many things,
to be so THANKFUL for...
We all just need to say THANKS,
for whatever we adore.
So it isn't just the TURKEY,
and all that PUMPKIN PIE,
Just make some time to give some
THANKS
before our day goes by.
Before we turn the light out
and lay in bed to rest,
Just take the time to think about
how we are all so BLESSED.
THANKSGIVING is for
FAMILY and FRIENDS
to come and SHARE....
And also it's our chance to say
how much we really CARE!
APPRECIATION is a gift
we all have in our HEART...
It's something that is free to GIVE...
let's do it now... let's start!

ANGEL WiNGS & Other Things!

"Be an angel to someone else whenever you can, as a way of thanking God for the help your Angel has given you."
-Eileen Elias

"We are each of us angels with only one wing, and we can only fly by embracing one another."
-Luciano de Crescenzo

"The wings of angels are often found on backs of the least likely people."
-Eric Honeycutt

taken by Chelsea Klette,
of Mariah & Beau!

Two ANGELS in my life...
 my grand daughter, Mariah
and my Daughter, Jana.

Mariah today happily showing me her
newest lady bug, DOT!
(hehehe... from Angel wings to lady bug wings!)

Check out how adorable these canvas prints look in my family room!
The big one is 24" by 16"
the smaller one is 12" by 16".
The big one is my gift from Jana for my year of babysitting Beau.
The smaller (SAD FACE one)
is for us to send to Colin!

This is a picture taken in mid June of 2010.
Here is mom, me,
and mom's friends Tryphena and Clara.
This was the last time mom's friends saw her living.
I had picked them up and taken them to visit mom that day at her care home.
Today I saw mom's friend Clara once again!

Keeping in my "ANGEL" theme of the day...
These are some little angels I got around Christmas last year.
I fell in love with them when I saw them and with mom's passing
I began a new collection to remind me of her in Heaven.
I kept them out in my living room all year.

A SWITCH from ANGELS to WITCHES!

WITCH way to Homesense???!!!!
Here is my buddy, Gailene, this afternoon
with this very cute Witch at Homesense!

To me ELLEN and STARBUCKS are saviors in my life
They often provide me with a feeling of happiness...
kind of like ANGELS!
I bought Ellen's new book yesterday and took this pic then as well.
I started reading the book last night... so funny just like Ellen!

Today my seize the day calendar said this...

"The best way to cheer yourself up is to try to cheer somebody else up."
-Mark Twain

And so began my day!

I was all set to do a different THEME for my blog today and almost started writing it this morning, when I received a call from mom's friend, Clara.
We were going to go for breakfast today. I hadn't seen her since mom's funeral last October, but she called me last week to check in on me, and I suggested then that we do a breakfast this week!

However, Clara had a bad fall in the night last night, and was unable to move easily today, so I went to her place with some muffins instead!
When I got there, she was in a lot of pain. She called her Dr. and I went and got her a walker. I took her to see her Dr. and then to an x-ray as well. It did my heart so good to be able to help her out today. She was like a guardian ANGEL to my mom when mom still lived in her apartment. Clara was a neighbour to her there.
I felt this was meant to be ...
it was my turn to return the help to her that she had given to mom. I called later to check in on her, to find out her x-ray said she had
a fractured pelvic bone.
Clara was super appreciative of my help,
so it made me feel good.

Following my morning spent with her, I joined Jana and Mariah for pizza lunch at their house.
Jana presented me with my lovely gift for my year of babysitting Beau....a beautiful canvas picture of my two little ANGELS!
I absolutely love it!

While there I got a call on my cel phone from my friend, Gailene to go for a little girlfriend bond ... so off we went to shop at Homesense. We always have fun and a few laughs when we get together. She came back here for a latte and visit before heading home again.

Brian has been like an ANGEL to his brother, Bruce. He is helping him out this week following his recent surgery, 3 weeks ago.

Yesterday was my sister-in-law,
Arleen's birthday.  She loves ANGELS and has the biggest collection of those!
This is the start of many family birthdays and celebrations to come for the month of October.

Today would have been friend, JAIME'S 33rd birthday. She unfortunately lost her life to cancer at the age of 15. This date always brings her and ANGELS to mind for me.

I noticed on Facebook  today that
"APPLE FOUNDER", STEVE JOBS,
died at the very young age of 56.

The ELLEN DEGENERES FB page
posted this around 6 PM today...
"I just finished my show and I heard the news about STEVE JOBS. He was an amazing man with an incredible vision.
He changed the world."

The STARBUCKS FB page posted this around 5:30 today...
"Thank you Steve Jobs, you made the world a better place.  You will be missed. "

So there must have been a reason I decided early on today to change my THEME of my blog to ANGEL WiNGS...
(& other things!)

It is only 20 days short of a year since my mom became an ANGEL in heaven. I feel her presence daily through so many every day things in my life.

On that note...  my poem for today!

I've been thinking a lot about
ANGEL WiNGS,
And just how they're attached
to so many things.
So many reasons for how they spread love,
From right here on earth,
to the skies up above.
Angels can come in all shapes and sizes,
They can also come 'round
in some sweet disguises.
In all kinds of weather
and every kind of season,
Whenever things happen,
there's always a reason.
And whether or not they've
all earned their wings,
They share lots of love
with the song their heart sings!
You can see them, feel them,
and hear them abound.
Oh... ANGELS
are truly everywhere to be found!

TWiCE the FUN!

Mariah and Beau sitting so nicely together  yesterday morning
after their little sleepover here.

Beau climbing up the stairs to be with his sister.
He is such a little climber now...
I cannot turn away for a second!

Jana looking Stunning
as she dropped off the kids here Saturday.
Her and Nels had TWO weddings to attend.

Another pic of Beau on the swings saturday.
He loves to swing... but can now climb out
of this seat, too!
He really is a little HOODINI!

A happy smile while Beau enjoyed a popsicle!
By the end of this popsicle...
there was more on his shirt than in his tummy I am sure!

My brother, Brian dropped by when he heard I had the kids here.
He really enjoys the kids and the dog, too.
He has been supplying us with lots of
yummy tomatoes from his garden all fall.

Squeaky clean Beau after his bath!

Mariah enjoying my Niece Rowen  on saturday night.
They made a set up with the smurfs and buddies behind on the floor!
Then they enjoyed creating dances and later watched movies.

Mariah idolizes Rowen...
and they have lots of FUN when ever they get together.
Co-incidental the calendar beside them on the table says...
REACH FOR THE STARS!

Shuffle tried on her Halloween BUMBLE BEE costume,
while Brian and Mariah were fascinated
by the magic coloring book!

Mariah enjoying a little tent with her grandpa.
She loves to share special tent time with him!

What's the BUZZZZ?!
Shuffle wanted her Halloween costume on again this morning
so I snapped a few more pics of her in it!

Here is Beau CLIMBING again!

Beau can get on this coffee table in no time flat!

Beau sporting his dad's cool shades
just before they left to go back home!

Always TWICE the FUN
when my STARBUCKS SISTERFRIEND,
Linda comes to the city to bond!
We TRADITIONALLY get a pic at STARBUCKS
each time we re-unite.

I had  a FUN-FILLED weekend.
Jana and Nels had two weddings to attend on Saturday so we got the grandkiddies for a little sleepover.  There is truly never a dull moment with them from start to finish!

We had a great play out in the backyard first, and then my brother, Brian popped by to drop off some more of his garden tomatoes. He loves coming when the kids are here. He loves the dog, too! We have sure enjoyed all his tomatoes... they have been just so tasty.

In the evening my sister-in-law, Brenda and her daughter, Rowen, popped by to play with Mariah. Rowen is such a sweetheart and is so good with Mariah, too. They played non stop for hours while Brenda and I visited. Beau and Brian eventually went to bed, and Mariah finally fell asleep on the couch watching a movie. Rowen and Brenda went home and I nicely got everything straightened away and my self to bed...and then Beau woke up!
He was full of life at midnight and really had no intentions of sleeping even though
I WAS READY FOR SLEEP!

Beau woke up 3 times more in the night, too, so needless to say, my sleep was not my best one!
We enjoyed all the adventures with the kiddies, though...and it is always twice the fun with the two kids here!

My bestie, Linda, drove in from Lanigan
for the afternoon for
a little girlfriend bond.
We traditionally go to STARBUCKS
and have a photo taken each time!

We always have fun whenever we re-unite, and it has been a couple months since we last met, so we had lots of catching up to do.
We had lots of laughs and fun shopping too, then she carried on back home.

We had my brother, Brian, for supper last night. My hubby, Brian, made a delicious butter chicken recipe... and I have enough to last me all week I am sure of it!

My hubby is off to visit his brother today. I have many projects and things to do, too...

When I opened up an email today I found an email with advice for being happier in life.
The list of 7 were...
1.Talk nice to yourself
2.Connect  with others in conversation and hugs
3.Keep a gratitude journal
4.Physical activity
5.Meditate
6. Help others... volunteer
7.Go Outside for fresh air

That same email went on to say...
"Say Thanks"...
Research says 15 minutes of daily gratitude can dramatically decrease
stress hormones in your body.

Today I am just once again saying THANKS to all my blog readers... I am so grateful for who ever pops by to read about my simple little life!

I am also grateful for my blog... it gives me a purpose and helps to give me a reason to write about all the positives in my life.

With THANKSGIVING fast approaching, what better time to be THANKFUL for everything great in our life!

My oatmeal happy heart tip today said this...
"Be an eternal optimist."
"Be active when possible-every bit helps."

My seize the day calendar says this...
"Kindness is the greatest wisdom."
-Author unknown

So on that note...
here is my poem of the day...

TWO grandkids are even better than one,
But when they're both here,
I don't get much done!
I have lots of laughs
and so much joy in my heart,
There's something so special
in kids from the start.
A coffee and visit
with a best friend is great,
It's DOUBLE the pleasure
and that I can state.
So TWO is just better...
it's TWICE as much FUN!
It makes me a winner
and I feel like I've won!

One Thing Leads to Another!

"Whatever you are, be a good one."
-Abraham Lincoln

"Follow your passion , stay true to yourself. Never follow anyone else's path, unless you're in the woods and are lost and you see a path, and by all means you should follow that."
-Ellen Degeneres

"Live now. Make now always the precious time. Now will never come again."
-Captain Jean-Luc Picard

"Life just is. You have to flow with it. Give yourself to the moment. Let it happen."
-Jerry Brown

I saw a blog on FB yesterday that LEAD me to this poster!
The words are so true... I LOVED this.

Hard to believe September has LEAD us to OCTOBER
already, and here is my Mary Engelbreit
calendar page with the saying of the month!

Another precious BEAU-ment in time!
I had to get Beau from daycare yesterday, so this is him
long enough for a couple pics on the couch,
then he was LEAD in another direction!

Two of the cute guys I am always LEAD to in life

Another TAPPiNESS pic of Mariah
 from her visit here Wednesday...
doing HEEL TAPS on the fireplace hearth.

And... HEEL TAPS... LEAD to TOE TAPS!

Is it just me... or is the time going faster and faster with each passing month?
I can hardly believe how September flew by and LEAD us into October already!

Yesterday I got a great
email forward which said,
"We do not stop playing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop playing."
That same forward also said to
"Laugh and find humor everyday."
Both of those messages were
good pieces of advice.

I also got looking through some blogs on my FB page... and one kept LEADING me to another one...all good all with fun and great info within.
Before I knew it, my afternoon was gone.

I had to pick up Beau from daycare yesterday, as I often do when his mom or dad can't make it there on time. I brought him back here for about an hour and truly enjoyed him as I always do. He is a true example of
ONE THING LEADS TO ANOTHER!!!
He just goes from one thing to the next and doesn't stop very long in any one place!

Jana and Mariah picked him up and after they left... we popped over for a visit at
my mother and father-in-law's for a bit.
We always enjoy stopping by to say hi,
and feel lucky they are doing so
well in their stage of life.

This morning after the 8:30 AM Body Vive class at the gym, I got onto the computer and saw my good FB/ email buddy from the coast on there, so opened up my CHAT. We then ended up connecting by phone as well. I have never met this friend, ARLENE, but when we chat it is as if we knew each other all our lives!
I am so glad we were LEAD to each other... some things just happen for a reason!
I really enjoyed that phone connection.

I was out walking Shuffle today and a gal stopped me and asked me if I used to teach dancing. She recognized me from dance competitions. She told me her aunt was a dance teacher in North Battleford. I know her aunt, Virginia, very well... so told her to send a big hello her way from me!

I got a sweet phone call from my mom's friend Clara, today. She hasn't talked to me since mom died. She called to see how I was doing. Clara, my mom and me all used to meet for breakfast at the Coachman on wednesdays... back in the day!
We have set up a little coffee date for next week at our same place! I'll look forward to seeing her again... it is just another sweet connection!

Jana and Nels are off to 2 weddings this evening...and so we are having the grand kiddies for a sleepover, and I just got a phone call to see if they could come sooner than later, so I need to wrap up this blog! I know the evening will be a real whirlwind for fun which is bound to show up in my next blog!

Tomorrow I'm excited to connect with my good friend, Linda, from Lanigan...and I am sure we will be LEAD to STARBUCKS for a traditional FLUFFY COFFEE and fun visit.

So until then... here is my poem for today...

Each day I try to take a walk,
with SHUFFLE, my dog,
And then I like to write
each day or two within my blog.
I like to stay in touch with
friends and fam along the way,
By phone calls, email
and or facebook everyday.
Sometimes I do get sidetracked
and enjoy something new,
I try to just go with that flow
and also follow through.
I really figure one thing
just leads right to another.
And everything connects
just like a child to their mother.
And everything begins
with the biggest word of all...
That word with just 4 letters,
is big and oh so tall!
So putting all that LOVE
into all things from the start,
Will lead me down a lot of paths
where I follow with my heart!
